USPS Board of Governors (BOG) Update – June

The USPS BOG is comparable to the board of directors of a publicly held corporation.

The board consists of up to nine Governors made up of industry individuals presidentially nominated and senate approved. The addition of the DeputyPMG and the Postmaster General make a full board of eleven.

The governors are nominated to a term of seven years. Not more than five of the nine may belong to the same political party. The board currently has only four of the nine seats filled, one by an Independent, one by a Republican, and two by Democrats.

Chairwoman Amber McReynolds (I), term is set to expire December 2026 (she is permitted one carryover year to December 2027), Vice Chairman Derek Kan (R) term is set to expire December 2028 , Governor Ronald Stroman (D) term is set to expire December 2028 , and Governor Daniel Tangherlini (D) term is set to expire December 2027.

The president has nominated four individuals who are all reported to be Republicans, according to the NALC. If approved, the board would have one empty seat that may be filled eventually with an Independent or Democrat.

Why is this so important? The Board of Governors selects the Postmaster General, and directs the exercise of the powers of the Postal Service, directs and controls its expenditures, reviews its practices, conducts long-range planning, approves officer compensation and sets policies on all postal matters. These matters are determined by vote, so a change in make up of the board may have significant impact on the direction of the USPS, its use of capital investments, and policy setting.

The Homeland Security & Government Affairs Committee, (HSGAC) will hold a hearing on Wednesday June 17th to hear several nominations, four of which are for the position of United States Postal Service Board of Governors. There are currently five open governor seats.

Official Committee Website: You can watch the live broadcast directly on the HSGAC Hearings Page. A video player will appear on the specific event page once the hearing goes live.

Date: June 17, 2026
Time: 9:00am
Location: Senate Dirksen Building, SD-562

In addition to the nominees for the BOG, the committee will be reviewing a substantial list of key administrative nominations for seats in the OMB, FEMA, TSA, DHS and others.

Below is a short bio on each of the nominees based on Source information from: the government executive article: from NACL, and from HSGAC
