As of July 13th Destination Entry NDC discount (DNDC) was eliminated as is the NDC containerization and entry through the NDC network. This was a bold move for USPS and one that Industry overall did not support. It has only been two weeks since the change and there have already been reports of pallet shortages on orders in the Milwaukee area.
With the elimination of NDC, mailers are now using more pallets, making smaller ones in order to qualify for SCF entry. Another byproduct of this change has been the resurgence of Copal for Letters and an increase to the amount of mail entering in commingle.
With more mail entering origin entry than prior entered at NDC mailers need to be diligently monitoring the postal performance in order to ensure they are entering the mail stream at the right time to hit windows for call center staffing and sales.
USPS plans some additional changes as a clean up of this initiative.
- Take NDC structure out of Marketing Mail Parcels
- Establish MXD WKG container for eliminated MXD NDC and NDC containers
- Eliminate or repurpose Label Lists 010, 601, 602, and 605
- Update postage statements
- Remove NDC references from DMM and other documents.
