USPS Network Activation Update

The below maps and information were recently shared at the Atlantic Area AIM meeting.

The Postal Service is showing they now have activated fifteen Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC) regions as of May 2026.

While the original strategic blueprint initially cited a target of approximately 60 facilities, the most recent filing on the PRC site shows the expected number of RPDC regions, once the network modernization is complete, is now 56.

The print is small in this graphic: for the full larger slides download the presentation at PostalPro.

Regional Transfer Hubs (RTH) are sites that USPS uses for cross-docking between regions and processing facilities. Some are co-located in RPDC’s or LPC, and four are free standing RTHs. Below lists the current fourteen RTHs; the expected total is 19 when complete.

USPS is projecting that utilization of RTHs cross dock operation, filling trucks, and eliminating containers has helped capture $1.3 B of the $1.8 B leg 2 RTO network transportation savings target.

The Postal Service is moving forward with “Fit-for-Function” projects both upgrading existing and deploying new sorting equipment to increase capacity and enhance operational design. This is all part of the Plant & Process Modernization initiative. USPS worked on fifteen sites between October and December of 2025 to provide training and active coaching.

To stay current on where the S&DCs are located you can monitor the USPS Postal Explorer S&DC Index, or download the facility files from USPS FAST.
