In July 2025, as the United States Postal Service celebrated its 250th anniversary, they asked us which one of the 25 most popular stamp issuances from the last three decades we wanted them to reprint. After receiving over 500,000 votes they have a winner.
Many of the stamps in the competition brought back wonderful childhood memories, but the winner takes my prize for the heart tug! Announced as the winner last week at the Boston 2026 World Stamp Expo, the Mr. Rogers 2018 stamp.
Emma Lee, Director of the Fred Rogers Institute explains why this honor was such a meaningful recognition. “Fred Rogers considered the space between the television set and a viewer to be ‘holy ground,’” “The mail children sent to Mister Rogers, and his letters back, became an essential extension of that sacred connection. Reissuing this stamp beautifully honors the enduring ties he built with his television friends.”
The Mister Rogers stamps are being issued as Forever stamps in a pane of 20, available on June 1st, along with the original stamps, four new ones, featuring additional characters from the “Neighborhood” will be included.
