Pitney Bowes has released their 2026 Parcel Shipping Index Report. This is a report they have been issuing annually to benchmark parcel volume, revenue, and carrier dynamics across the market.
The key elements of the report include:
- Volume Surge: US parcel volume reached 23.1 billion shipments in 2025, a 3.3% increase from 22.4 billion in 2024.

- Revenue Rebound: US parcel revenue increased by 6.2% year-over-year in 2025, outpacing volume growth after two consecutive years of decline. The average revenue per parcel rose by 2.9% to $9.34 (up from $9.09 in 2024).
- Future Forecast: Volumes are projected to reach 31 billion by 2031, growing at a “Most Likely” compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5%.

A major milestone highlighted in the report is that Amazon Logistics has overtaken the traditional carriers to become the largest parcel delivery provider in the US by volume. Amazon volume now exceeds USPS which had fallen to 6.2 billion.

One of the positive stories is the on-time service performance of each of the top three carriers – USPS, UPS, and FedEx have improved in 2025 over 2024. They are forecasting continued strong single digit growth over the next five years.
