David Steiner, the 76th Postmaster General, officially takes office on Monday, July 14, 2025. Mr. Steiner, like Louis DeJoy, came from a private enterprise background. His corporate management experience comes
from his tenure with Waste Management, where he began as general counsel, was eventually promoted to CFO, and then to CEO and President. Mr. Steiner has served on several corporate boards, most notably that of FedEx, from which he has since stepped down.
David Steiner has engaged in meetings with several USPS executives and upper management over the last six weeks, presumably preparing for the new role and gaining insights into current operational practices and objectives.
PMG is the highest position at USPS, but does not make decisions independently. USPS has both a regulator (Postal Regulatory Commission – PRC) and an overseer (Board of Governors – BOG). The BOG, which, when fully constituted, consists of eleven members.
The Board directs and controls the Postal Service’s expenditure, reviews its practices, conducts long-range planning, approves officer compensation, and sets policies on all postal matters, as well as approving any classification or pricing changes before going to the PRC.
The industry is anxiously awaiting news from Mr. Steiner regarding any directional changes to the Delivering for America Plan, which has included the maximum use of pricing authorities.
We are hopeful he will be addressing the Mailer Technical Advisory Committee (MTAC) at the July 22 meeting.
