In the July 23rd Federal Register, the Postal Service™ announced that it’s proposing an amendment to the Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®) to remove all references to the POSTNET™ barcode.
The use of a POSTNET barcode for price eligibility has been discontinued for several years. However, the Postal Service did allow the use of the barcode in some circumstances, such as to qualify for Business Reply Mail® pricing.
This amendment is being proposed because of “limited use” of the POSTNET barcode. To accommodate customers with preprinted stock that have POSTNET barcodes, the Postal Service will continue to process mailpieces with a POSTNET barcode.
