Search for a new Postmaster General (PMG) – could the wait be over?

This is the first National Postal Forum in my recollection in which we did not have a permanent Postmaster General (PMG) in office.  There have been transitional periods in USPS leadership – such as when acting PMG is in place due to retirement, resignation, or before a successor is officially named, but historically that replacement has been named prior to the NPF.

The Problem

A large law firm specializing in construction law faced significant inefficiencies in processing Certified Mail®. The firm manually handled 350 to 600 Certified Mail pieces per month, requiring substantial administrative effort.

The traditional process involved completing forms by hand, applying postage, copying envelopes for billing, delivering mail to the post office, and managing return receipts—a labor-intensive and time-consuming workflow.

The Challenge

Processing high volumes of Certified Mail consumed valuable staff hours and introduced risks of delays and errors. The firm struggled with:

  • Completing and managing PS 3800 and 3811 forms.
  • Manually applying postage and copying envelopes.
  • Transporting mail to the Post Office™.
  • Handling delayed Return Receipts, sometimes taking five business days.
  • Managing misplaced Proof of Delivery forms, requiring reprocessing.

The firm sought a more efficient solution to streamline operations, reduce labor costs, and improve Certified Mail tracking.

The firm adopted Intelligent Certified Mail, an automated solution that reduced manual processes and ensured seamless Certified Mail handling.

  • Secure digital storage, ensuring quick access to Proof of Delivery when needed.
  • Reduced administrative workload, freeing resources for higher-value legal tasks.
