On July 5, 2018, the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) issued Order 4697 approving the use of internal measurement systems by the USPS®. PI2015-1 was established on January 29, 2015 by the PRC to consider a Postal Service™ proposal concerning new internal service performance measurement systems for several of the USPS market dominant products.
On Thursday, July 12, the U.S. Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair overturned the physical presence standard adopted in Quill v. North Dakota, which established that online retailers could only be required to collect state and local sales taxes in jurisdictions where they operated a warehouse, office, or some other physical presence.
On July 11, Idealliance announced that Vice President Timothy Baechle will become the non-profit organization’s new Chief Executive Officer effective October 1, 2018. Baechle is replacing David Steinhardt, who served as President and CEO since 2001.

On June 14, the House passed the Securing the International Mail Against Opioids Act of 2018 (H.R. 5788). The aim of the bill is to prevent the shipment of synthetic opioids and other narcotics into the U.S. through the international mail system.
Effective September 1, 2018, all new payment accounts must be established through EPS. Also, CAPS (Centralized Accounting Processing System) will be retired effective April 1, 2019. All eligible products must be migrated from CAPS to EPS by this date. The USPS is encouraging customers to migrate before this date.

On April 25, GrayHair will be participating in the Hunger Games event at the Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ). As a company we’ve participated in the event since 2014. The event challenges corporate teams (4 chefs on each team) to prepare an impressive dish in 45 minutes using a mystery box of ingredients with the help of a mentor appointed by the Food Bank or brought by the team.

The Postmaster General’s Mailers’ Technical Advisory Committee (MTAC) introduced its Product Management Team this month. The team’s purpose is to “ensure USPS mailing and shipping products and services continue to add value and meet customer needs.”

The National Association of Presort Mailers (NAPM) announced that Kathleen Siviter has accepted the position of Assistant Executive Direction for the association starting February 15, 2018.
The USPS is delaying the Move Update Census assessment implementation at least 30 days (maybe longer) since they have linked it to the Green and Secure initiative, which is going through the Federal Register process.
The new Move Update verification method assesses Mail Service Providers on a monthly basis starting with February data, meaning that, at the beginning of March, invoicing will be issued for any failures under the new verification method.
USPS Files Federal Register Notice on New “Green & Secure Move Update Method” Going into Effect in April
On January 9, 2018, the USPS® published a Federal Register Notice proposing a new "Green & Secure" alternative method to meet the Move Update standard for eligible First-Class Mail® and USPS Marketing Mail Letters and Flats that meet the requirements for Full-Service or Basic mailings. The USPS is doing this to reduce handling costs of Undeliverable as Addressed (UAA) mail by minimizing the cost or processing return mail. Comments on the proposed method are due by February 8, 2018
